What does DEI mean for foundation investing?
Until Feb. 1, 2023, we were Group Health Foundation. This post was written under our former identity. To learn more about our new name, read our announcement here.
Group Health Foundation was excited to support this exploration by The Giving Practice of the ways in which foundations are applying diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles to their investment policies and practices.
In “Forging Ahead: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Foundation Investing Activities,” The Giving Practice, the national consulting firm of Philanthropy Northwest, shares findings from interviews with executives, board members, and senior investing staff at eight foundations. The report delves into how foundations are evolving their policies and practices for investment staffing, operations, vendor relations, and investments in order to align with DEI values and goals.
At Group Health Foundation, equity is our leading value, guiding all aspects of the Foundation—from vision and strategy, to community engagement and partnerships, to grantmaking and investment. As we are just getting started, we recognize we have much to learn, and are grateful to be part of this ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas about DEI and investing.
