Learning, listening, sharing
Beyond collecting and measuring data about our own grantmaking, we also view creating reports about Washington state communities as a privilege and a commitment to learning and listening.
Because communities most impacted by inequities belong at the center of developing solutions, the reports we publish reflect their wisdom and insights. Through the resources we make available, we are dedicated to sharing what we learn to strengthen our collective efforts toward equity and racial justice and to hold ourselves accountable as a foundation.
Annual Grantmaking Reports
These reports chronicle the progress and story of our grantmaking as a foundation. Since 2019, we have committed a total of $200 million to hundreds of organizations in Washington state. Our team has made the conscious choice to collect and report data that will help us make decisions in alignment with our values and mission with communities’ visions for the future.

GRANTEE ENGAGEMENT EVALUATION
Getting to know and hear from community leaders will always be a priority and this third-party evaluation was another chance to hear about how we’re doing. Our partners at Frontline Solutions interviewed and surveyed more than 100 grantee organizations in 2022 to better understand how well leaders feel our policies, processes, and practices align with our new values and how they experience working with us.
POWERFUL COMMUNITIES
Racial justice requires community power. Community power means that Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, people with disabilities, immigrants and refugees, the LGBTQ+ community, people living on low incomes—and especially those who hold several of these identities—are the ones leading the systems change necessary to transform our society. As a newer foundation, we are solidifying a tradition of reflection, and this report, Powerful Communities: What we learned in our first year of grantmaking, is one way we are practicing this.
A YEAR ON THE ROAD
Seeking guidance from community and tribal leaders, we traveled to all of Washington’s 39 counties. A Year on The Road shares the insights and advice we received from leaders at the forefront of powerful work to address the root causes of inequities.
