Gutierrez was a Senior Program Officer at Inatai Foundation
SEATTLE—Jorge Gutierrez, a leader with more than 12 years of experience in nonprofit management, program development, and grantmaking, has joined Inatai Investment Management Company (IMCO) as Program-Related Investments (PRI) Director. In this role, Jorge will leverage his six years as Senior Program Officer at Inatai Foundation to develop and implement a new PRI program under its investment management subsidiary.
“We look forward to Jorge’s leadership and what he will accomplish,” said IMCO Chief Investment Officer Peng Wang. “His background as a Senior Program Officer at the foundation, along with his experience in leading nonprofits, gives him deep expertise and a unique understanding of how our program-related investments can support organizations across Washington in achieving their goals for equity and racial justice.”
Inatai’s PRIs are mission-aligned investments that complement the foundation’s grantmaking strategy through flexible financial tools, such as loans or equity. The program will provide grantees access to capital at costs that are significantly lower than traditional financial avenues such as bank loans. “The program will leverage capital to support communities that have historically been denied such resources,” Gutierrez stated. Over the next year, IMCO will work to define investment criteria and policies for the PRI program before announcing a launch date.
In his previous role at Inatai Foundation, Gutierrez developed the Emerging Opportunities Fund. One key funding area under this portfolio supports grantee organizations leading community ownership projects. “Through the Emerging Opportunities work, I have witnessed the potential of organizations to build significant wealth and long-term assets for their communities,” Gutierrez remarked. “However, traditional grants often have limited funding sizes. Program-related investments could provide a supplementary source of funding for larger projects that cannot be fully financed through conventional grants.”
Prior to his time at Inatai Foundation, Gutierrez served as the Executive Director of the Lower Columbia Hispanic Council in Oregon, where he helped establish it as a leading political power-building organization for Latino communities in the state. There, he founded La Voz de la Comunidad (The Voice of the Community) to create a platform for civic engagement and policy influence. Before embarking on his nonprofit career, Gutierrez worked in law and entertainment before discovering his passion for community-oriented work. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Bowdoin College.
