Rachel Gropper (she/her) joins us as Administrative Associate. We asked Rachel 10 questions to learn more about her background, community, and how she connects to our work at Inatai.

Name: Rachel Gropper
Pronouns:  she/her
Role:  Administrative Associate
Home:  Franklin County

1. What are three words that describe you?

Loyal, Optimistic, Compassionate

2. What is the “long story short” of how you landed at Inatai?

Seeking a career where I could be part of true change to improve communities, and a workplace where I had a voice always left me searching. When I learned that there was a foundation composed of great people working together towards a mission that truly speaks to me, I was instantly excited to join. I’ve always wanted to work for a nonprofit that serves my community. Seeing an opportunity to be part of that work, I eagerly applied and was beyond excited to be offered the job! Every person I’ve met here has made this experience even more rewarding!

3. What excites you most about being part of Team Inatai? OR What is something you’re hoping to accomplish during your time here?

Being part of a team that creates positive change in the community is a personal dream come true. By myself, it seemed near impossible to create the changes needed to better my community. Inatai has opened the door to collaborating with passionate individuals to address local needs, advocate for fairness, and challenge government corruption to strengthen our society. I am no longer alone in this goal.

4. Tell us about the community or communities you belong to.

I have a deep connection to Spanish culture, which is rooted in strong family bonds and  sense of community. Family is at the heart of everything we do, and traditions are passed down with pride. The vibrant music, flavorful cuisine, and the celebration of our heritage all bring me immense joy. Keeping our history alive is essential—it honors those who came before us and strengthens our identity for future generations. Whether through storytelling, shared meals, or festive gatherings, preserving our cultural roots is a cherished part of life.

5. Inatai’s strategies are underlined by a 50-Year Vision informed by communities. What is it about your community that keeps you hopeful for the future?

The people.  More and more, people, through education, have become more aware and are encouraging themselves and their families to seek control of their own destiny. Passing these skills on to their children gives me hope for a better future.

6. Finish this sentence: The Inatai value the most resonates with me is…

 The Seven Generation Principle.

7. What is your favorite fact about Washington?

I love that Washington has both a rainforest and a desert.

8. Where is your favorite place in Washington?

My home and being with friends and family. Wherever I go with them is my happy place. Second to that I love finding waterfalls and being near streams, lakes, and rivers. Mount Rainier in the spring and early fall are full of Washington beauty.

9. What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that you would recommend? Why?

The Twilight zone (the black and white seasons) and  anything Alfred Hitchcock. I love black and white movies; they are forced to act and not depend on Hollywood “magic”. Great stories, great acting, and fun to watch.

I also enjoy watching family friendly shows like “The Office” and “Parks and Rec.”

10. What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I love spending time with my family, creating lasting memories through gardening, music, outdoor barbecues, and holiday traditions. Being outside brings me joy, whether tending to plants or simply enjoying nature. I also enjoy sewing and crocheting, crafting pieces that hold meaning and have practical purpose. These activities bring warmth, connection, and creativity into my life.
