Chantal Wong  joins Inatai Foundation as an Administrative Associate. We asked Chantal ten questions to learn more about  her background, community, and how she connects to our work at Inatai.

Name: Chantal Wong
Pronouns:  she/her/hers
Role:  Administrative Associate, Operations & Administration
Home County:  Bothell, Snohomish County

1. What are three words that describe you?

Creative, cheerful, resourceful.

2. What is the “long story short” of how you landed at Inatai?

I began my career in communications at agencies focused on advocacy and issue-based work. I partnered with foundations, organizations, and even corporations exploring social-impact projects, yet I found myself questioning whether communications was my path. I worked with Inatai while at one of these agencies and became intrigued by its mission, 50 -Year Vision, statewide focus, and genuine commitment to relationship building. I knew if an opportunity came, I would have to pursue it. When the Administrative Associate role opened, it felt like the perfect chance to try something new and be part of something big in Washington state.

3. What excites you most about being part of Team Inatai?

I’m genuinely excited to learn something new in this role. I’m looking forward to drawing on the skills I’ve developed in my previous positions and stretching myself in new ways. I can’t wait to contribute to the culture and help strengthen processes at the foundation.

4. Tell us about the community or communities you belong to.

I am proudly Chinese American. I was raised in a big, loving family that taught me the importance of connection. My parents’ stories—grounded in resilience, sacrifice, and courage—continue to show me that strength is something we build together, not alone.

5. Inatai’s strategies are underlined by a 50-Year Vision informed by communities. What is it about your community that keeps you hopeful for the future?

My family taught me to show up for others and that uplifting someone else does not diminish my own story. I’ve seen how powerful it can be to support, connect, and lead with kindness. That keeps me hopeful.

6. Finish this sentence: The Inatai value the most resonates with me is…

Joy:  The work to build power within systems that were never designed for the communities we serve is incredibly demanding—emotionally and mentally—and it’s too easy to feel defeated by the challenges we are working against. But joy offers hope for what’s possible and helps sustain us through this hard work.

7. What is your favorite fact about Washington?

The Washington State Ferry system is the second-largest ferry system in the world and the largest in the country! It operates 20 terminals on 10 routes within Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands.

8. Where is your favorite place in Washington?

Stevens Pass: My husband and I love to go snowboarding and this is what we consider to be our home mountain. You will likely find us here every weekend (if we are able) during the season!

9. What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that you would recommend? Why?

Juror No. 2 – I know I have enjoyed a movie or show when I am reminded how I felt during the watching experience. This is a straightforward legal thriller centered on a messy moral dilemma that stays with you for weeks.

10. What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I love to draw and make little crafts! I love to do this in my spare time because I find that it keeps my creative juices flowing. My favorite things to make are stickers and greeting cards. Also, you will likely find me cuddling with my cat, Enoki.
