Leaders from 40 organizations from ten Eastern Washington counties attended Inatai Foundation’s third regional Shaping the Future gathering. As community leaders met in Pullman, they took the opportunity to connect with peers who understand the nuances of organizing in urban, suburban, and rural areas. A large part of the event was sharing ideas about the different ways communities join forces and build power to create the thriving futures and flourishing world that Washington communities deserve.

Tune into this video to hear what community leaders in Eastern Washington are working to win in their communities. One attendee featured, Ginger Ewing, Executive Director of Terrain in Spokane, shares she was excited to attend because it connects to the purpose of her organization: “I would think that a lot of Terrain’s work is that convening of people, is bringing together of people in safe spaces where we get to reflect, we get to ideate, we get to celebrate, we get to co-conspire. And I’m really excited for Shaping the Future because I think it’s going to be a similar experience.”

Shaping the Future: Eastern Washington was the third in a series of regional conferences to bring people together working across issues toward equity and racial justice in Washington. The first convening, Shaping the Future: North Central Washington, was hosted in Wenatchee last fall. Most recently, the second in the series, Shaping the Future: Olympic Peninsula & Southwest Washington, was in Kamilche earlier this year.

In addition to Ginger Ewing, you’ll also hear from the following leaders in this video:

  • Nichole June Maher, Inatai Foundation
  • Rubén Peralta, Inatai Foundation
  • Emma Noyes, Inatai Foundation
  • Andrew Mark Carlos, Hispanic Business Professionals Association
  • Terry Buffington, Terry Buffington Foundation
  • Ryann Louie, Asians for Collective Liberation
  • Patricia Castaneda, Manzanita House
